DAVID AXELROD-ROCK MESSIAH

DAVID AXELROD
Rock Messiah
1972

SPECIAL THANKS TO
Britannica

For sharing David Axelrod's Rock Interpretation of Handel's Messiah

THE One Axelrod Album I DIDN'T HAVE

Written and arranged by David Axelrod
Conducted by Cannonball Adderley
Produced by Ronald Budnik

following on the same progression that he began with his work for the Electric Prunes, and on some of his Capitol work. The record is a version of Handel's Messiah, but it's done with all the right Axelrod touches -- plenty of subdued funk, nice jazzy flourishes, and dark orchestrations of the sort that gave birth to a whole generation of hip hoppers and beatheads.

Axelrod arranged the whole thing, and Cannonball Adderley conducted the album -- and it does have a feel in parts that similar to some of their 2 LP concept sets on Capitol, like Soul Of The Bible or the Soul Zodiac.(which you HAVE to get if you dont have it)

ENJOY!!!

Damn, I got excited at first when I saw this in the list of Axelrod posts. This and the big country are the only full-length axelrod albums i didn't already have and have been wanting for a while.

If you haven't already listened to it, don't sleep on his most recent self-titled album, either. It's a better album than half of those in his discography IMO.

it's funny, this is the first axelrod album i found...and needless to say i was pretty disappointed when i put it on the deck. not a bad album, but im not a religious person i had a hard time soaking it up.
good looking out on all the other joints. much appreciated, glad to have the digital collection now.
